The "BLENDED HULLS"


CANADIAN EXPLORER
(Forward section: Formerly VERENDRYE, EDENSFIELD, NORTHERN VENTURE. Stern: CABOT)
Built 1944
In addition to having already been reconstructed as a "blended hull", the CANADIAN EXPLORER sustained damage following a collision in 1997. As a result, the stern of the EXPLORER was ultimately paired with the forebody of HAMILTON TRANSFER to create the "new" vessel CANADIAN TRANSFER sailed from 1998-2014 (ultimately becoming ALGOMA TRANSFER).

Stern: Built 1967 Davie Shipbuilding, Quebec Hull No. 662
Forebody: Built 1961 Schlieker-Werft, Germany
"New" vessel created 1984 at Port Weller Drydocks.
Converted to specialized self-unloader in 1987.
She was not included in the sale of the Upper Lakes vessels acquired by Algoma.

VESSELS ACQUIRED FROM CANADA STEAMSHIP LINES  (1994):


BAIE ST. PAUL received the name CANADIAN PATHFINDER - Although she still bore CSL red,
Scrap tow with "CANADIAN HARVEST" (ex. RIMOUSKI). The latter vessel broke up and sank in the Atlantic.
